If it drops, unplug the modem for about ten seconds and plug it back in; it takes a couple of minutes to come back up. If it is still down after that, write to us.

This is a coastal, semi-rural area — mobile signal and internet can wobble in a storm. If a video call really matters to you, do not leave it to the last minute.

Keeping cool

It is hot and humid here most of the year, and the nights stay warm.

When you arrive we show you what the apartment has for keeping cool and where the switches and the remotes are — ask us if you cannot find one.
If you are running air conditioning, close the windows and the doors in that room. With them open it will not cool and it just runs and runs.
Around 24°C is comfortable at night. Setting it much lower does not cool the room any faster.
Please switch off whatever you have running to keep cool when you leave the apartment.
Early morning and after sunset the breeze does most of the work — opening up is often nicer than switching anything on.

Sun, mosquitoes and the damp

Three small things that make a real difference on this coast.

The sun is strong, even when it is cloudy. Sunscreen, a hat and water, and take it easy between midday and mid-afternoon.
Mosquitoes come out at dusk, and we are close to the river mouth, so there are more of them here than in town. Put on repellent with DEET before sunset and keep the doors closed while the lights are on inside.
The air is humid. Hang wet swimsuits and towels outside rather than leaving them in a bag, and keep your bag closed so nothing gets damp.

There are scorpions in this region. Most stings are not serious, but copy the local habit: shake out your shoes before putting them on, and take a light if you walk outside at night. If you are stung, message us, and call 911 if you get any symptom beyond local pain.
