House rules

Very few, and all of them are about the neighbors.

This is a quiet residential area where people live all year round. Keep music and voices down outdoors, and especially after 10:00 PM.
The apartment is for the people on the booking. If you want to have someone else over, ask us first.
No parties or events.
Treat the place as somebody's home, because it is one.
Any specific conditions of your booking are in your reservation confirmation — if something there and something here seem to disagree, ask us and we will clear it up.

Trash

Trash needs a little more care here than in a city apartment.

Keep the trash bag closed and inside until you take it out — an open bag brings ants, flies and animals within hours.
Ask us where the trash goes and which day the collection comes; it is not the same everywhere in the area and we would rather tell you than have you guess.
Rinse anything that had food or drink in it before you throw it away. It makes a big difference to the smell in this heat.
Never leave a bag outside overnight.

The sea here

Please read this one even if you are a strong swimmer.

The Pacific on this stretch of coast has serious rip currents and a heavy shore break. Swimming here is not a casual thing the way it is on a calm bay — people who swim well get into trouble every season.

Do not swim alone, and never after drinking.
Do not let children in the water unwatched, not even at the edge.
If you get pulled out, do not swim against it. Stay afloat, swim sideways along the beach until you are out of the pull, and only then come in.
Ask us or a local before getting in at a beach you do not know — some are fine on some days and not on others.
There are no lifeguards on these beaches — nobody is watching to see you get into trouble.

The river mouth and the sand are wonderful for walking in daylight. Right at the mouth of the river the current and the depth change without warning, so treat that spot as somewhere to walk, never to swim.
